Traffic in Our Community
As your City Councillor, I genuinely care about making our streets safer for everyone. Traffic calming measures are a vital part of this effort, helping to reduce speeding and create an environment where all road users—whether pedestrians, cyclists, or drivers—feel secure.
How to Share Your Concerns
If you’ve noticed traffic issues in our area, I want to hear from you. Here’s how you can let the City know:
- For concerns about speeding or reckless driving: Please reach out to the Ottawa Police Service at 613-236-1222 extension 7300, or report your concerns online at ottawapolice.ca. Your safety matters!
- For general traffic issues: You can email 311@ottawa.ca or call 3-1-1. When you report an issue, being specific helps the City staff address your concerns more effectively.
Once you submit a request through the 3-1-1 system, you’ll receive a service request number to track the status of your concern. The City will review these reports based on various factors, including past incidents and current traffic conditions, and may even conduct site visits to better understand the issue.
What Happens Next?
City staff consider various approaches when addressing traffic concerns:
- Urgent Safety Issues: If there’s a critical problem, like a missing stop sign or a broken traffic light, those issues are prioritized and addressed as quickly as possible.
- Referral to Other Departments: Some concerns, such as land use or road maintenance issues, may be better handled by other departments. In such cases, your concern will be referred to the appropriate team.
- Education and Awareness: Sometimes, raising awareness among drivers can help. This might include adding signs, launching educational campaigns, or coordinating enforcement efforts to promote safe driving.
- Quick Fixes: Cost-effective solutions, such as flexible posts or speed display boards, can often be implemented swiftly. These measures are typically funded through the City’s Temporary Traffic Calming Measures Program, and locations are chosen in consultation with your Councillor.
- Long-Term Engineering Changes: For more complex issues, the City explores permanent changes to road designs that encourage safer driving. While these solutions may take longer to implement, they are crucial for creating lasting safety improvements.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
Your input is essential in creating a safer community. If you see something that needs attention or have ideas for improvements, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. Together, we can work towards making our streets safer and more welcoming for everyone. Thank you for being a vital part of our community!
