The City of Ottawa is now offering an innovative new bike parking solution for cyclists travelling in the downtown core. Our new Secure Bike Parking Lockers, placed at three key destination areas, provide residents and visitors alike with a high quality, secure option for bike storage while they are enjoying all that our city has to offer.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This is an important part of implementing the City\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ottawa.ca\/en\/parking-roads-and-travel\/parking\/parking-strategy-and-studies#section-99737802-71da-4452-8c5c-94a24e51fc5f\">Public Bike Parking Strategy<\/a>\u00a0and is a key piece to encourage and promote cycling in our nation\u2019s capital.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The Secure Bike Parking Lockers are available at the following key destination areas:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Byward Market: 141 Clarence Street, along the west wall inside the parking garage close to the Murray Street exit<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>The Glebe: 170 Second Avenue, outside the Glebe parking garage near the entrance\/exit on Second Avenue<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Centretown: 234-250 Slater Street, at the surface parking lot adjacent to the sidewalk<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>More to come!<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ottawa.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/rectangle_xs\/public\/2024-09\/Sept%2011%20-%20Social%20-%20Secure%20Bike%20Storage.jpg?itok=3deidq8L\" alt=\"A secure bike storage locker with three lockers visible. The locker is covered in blue and green circular designs and cartoon bicycles.\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Using the lockers<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Each locker can hold six bicycles.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Download the V\u00e9lo-Transit application on your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.velotransit.android&amp;hl=en_CA&amp;gl=US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Android(link is external)<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/ca\/app\/v%C3%A9lo-transit\/id1484733099\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Apple(link is external)<\/a>\u00a0device.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Create an account and choose the desired location. Lockers are available on a first come, first serve basis.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Select \u201cPay as you go\u201d, followed by your desired locker number.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Enter your payment details and confirm the start of the rental.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Select \u201cOpen door\u201d and wait for approximately 30 seconds.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Store your bike by laying your mobile device flat on the lock for 5 seconds to unlock it. The door will lock automatically after 8 seconds or as soon as the door closes.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Retrieve your bike by following the previous step to unlock.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>To stop your rental, click \u201cEnd Rental or Stop Service\u201d in the V\u00e9lo-Transit application<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Fees<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>First 2 hours: free<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Each additional hours: $0.50\/hour<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>The rental period will continue until the user ends their session through the V\u00e9lo-Transit application.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ottawa.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/rectangle_xs\/public\/2024-09\/Secure%20Bike%20Storage%20Image%202.png?itok=ksq7QMT9\" alt=\"A close up on a pair of hands holding a phone, closing the VeloTransit app. A bicycle seat and storage locker are visible in the background.\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This initial phase of bike locker installations will be monitored to determine potential next steps to adjust and expand the program.
