This citywide cleanup initiative is a chance for Ottawa residents to unite and keep our community clean, green, and litter-free. Whether you are a first-time participant or a seasoned volunteer, this campaign offers a great opportunity to make a positive impact on the environment while fostering community pride.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"424\" data-end=\"453\"><strong data-start=\"428\" data-end=\"453\">Registration Now Open<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"454\" data-end=\"810\">The Spring Cleaning the Capital campaign runs from <strong data-start=\"505\" data-end=\"539\">March 14, 2025, to May 2, 2025<\/strong>. Don&#8217;t miss the chance to register your cleanup project and help make a difference in your community. You can register through our online form. This is a perfect team activity!<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1495\" data-end=\"1629\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1498\" data-end=\"1629\"><strong data-start=\"1498\" data-end=\"1521\">Plan Waste Disposal<\/strong>: Review the proper disposal methods for garbage, recyclables, and hazardous waste before your cleanup day.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1631\" data-end=\"1660\"><strong data-start=\"1635\" data-end=\"1660\">Register Your Project<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1661\" data-end=\"1905\">Fill out the online registration form to sign up for your project. If you require cleanup supplies, be sure to request a cleanup kit when registering. Kits include gloves and garbage bags, which are essential for safely completing your cleanup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1907\" data-end=\"2125\"><strong data-start=\"1907\" data-end=\"1924\">Why Register?<\/strong> Registering helps us distribute supplies, track areas cleaned, and recognize your efforts as a volunteer. By registering, you are ensuring that all participants are supported in their cleanup efforts.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2127\" data-end=\"2155\"><strong data-start=\"2131\" data-end=\"2155\">Promote Your Cleanup<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2156\" data-end=\"2324\">If you&#8217;d like to promote your cleanup project, we\u2019ve created a poster that you can use to spread the word. Be sure to get any necessary permissions for public postings.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2326\" data-end=\"2354\"><strong data-start=\"2330\" data-end=\"2354\">Get Your Cleanup Kit<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2355\" data-end=\"2668\">If you requested a cleanup kit, be sure to pick it up from your chosen City of Ottawa facility. Kits include gloves, garbage bags, and other essential items to kickstart your project. If you have any questions about your kit, please don\u2019t hesitate to contact us at <a rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"2620\" data-end=\"2667\">cleaning@ottawa.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2670\" data-end=\"2704\"><strong data-start=\"2674\" data-end=\"2704\">Submit Your Cleanup Report<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2705\" data-end=\"2889\">Once your project is complete, remember to submit your online cleanup report by <strong data-start=\"2785\" data-end=\"2802\">June 15, 2025<\/strong>. Don\u2019t forget to include photos of your efforts and the amount of waste you collected!<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2891\" data-end=\"2928\"><strong data-start=\"2895\" data-end=\"2928\">Waste Disposal and Collection<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2929\" data-end=\"3003\">When you\u2019ve finished cleaning up, you have two options for waste disposal:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3005\" data-end=\"3489\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3005\" data-end=\"3191\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3007\" data-end=\"3191\"><strong data-start=\"3007\" data-end=\"3042\">Set Waste Out on Collection Day<\/strong>: If the amount is manageable, you can place your collected garbage and recyclables at your home on your regularly scheduled curbside collection day.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3192\" data-end=\"3489\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3194\" data-end=\"3489\"><strong data-start=\"3194\" data-end=\"3220\">Request Garbage Pickup<\/strong>: For larger cleanup projects, you can request a special waste pickup at your project site by contacting us at <a rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"3331\" data-end=\"3378\">cleaning@ottawa.ca<\/a>. Be sure to include your registration code, the number of bags, a detailed location, and a photo of the waste.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3491\" data-end=\"3663\"><strong data-start=\"3491\" data-end=\"3510\">Important Note:<\/strong> Please do not leave hazardous materials or large items like broken glass, wood, or metal at the cleanup site. For hazardous waste, please contact 3-1-1.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"3665\" data-end=\"3685\"><strong data-start=\"3669\" data-end=\"3685\">Safety First<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3686\" data-end=\"3778\">Safety is our top priority. Please follow these basic safety guidelines during your cleanup:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3779\" data-end=\"4057\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3779\" data-end=\"3810\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3781\" data-end=\"3810\">Wear gloves and sturdy shoes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3811\" data-end=\"3841\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3813\" data-end=\"3841\">Wear long sleeves and pants.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3842\" data-end=\"3907\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3844\" data-end=\"3907\">If cleaning near a road, wear bright clothing or a safety vest.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3908\" data-end=\"3996\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3910\" data-end=\"3996\">Supervise children and ensure they don\u2019t handle hazardous items like glass or needles.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3997\" data-end=\"4057\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3999\" data-end=\"4057\">Avoid lifting heavy items or objects you are unsure about.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"4059\" data-end=\"4090\"><strong data-start=\"4063\" data-end=\"4090\">Leave the Leaves &amp; Wood<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4091\" data-end=\"4333\">As part of your cleanup, remember to \u201cLeave the Leaves\u201d! Fallen leaves provide essential habitats for pollinators and other wildlife. Similarly, do not remove branches or dead wood from natural spaces\u2014this debris contributes to forest health.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"4335\" data-end=\"4361\"><strong data-start=\"4339\" data-end=\"4361\">Shoreline Cleanups<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4362\" data-end=\"4740\">Do you love Ottawa\u2019s waterways? Help us clean our shorelines! Our city is home to 4,500 kilometers of streams and rivers, and cleaning these areas is essential for maintaining water quality. Focus on removing human-made litter but leave natural elements like branches and logs in place. Contact your local conservation authority for guidance on the best shoreline cleanup sites.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"4742\" data-end=\"4783\"><strong data-start=\"4746\" data-end=\"4783\">What\u2019s Included in a Cleanup Kit?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4784\" data-end=\"4813\">Cleanup starter kits include:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4814\" data-end=\"4845\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"4814\" data-end=\"4830\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4816\" data-end=\"4830\">Nitrile gloves<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"4831\" data-end=\"4845\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4833\" data-end=\"4845\">Garbage bags<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4847\" data-end=\"4913\">Please note that we no longer distribute leaf and yard waste bags.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"4915\" data-end=\"4941\"><strong data-start=\"4919\" data-end=\"4941\">Still Need a Team?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4942\" data-end=\"5160\">If you haven\u2019t yet found a team, gather one! Ask your friends, family, neighbors, or colleagues to get involved.
