City Hall got a welcome shake-up this week as students from Gloucester High School spent the day exploring local government from the inside out. From council chambers to behind-the-scenes briefings, these bright young minds dove headfirst into what makes a city tick.\"\"<\/p>\n

Their day began with a full tour of the building, including the Council Chambers, where they took their seats as councillors and got a front-row look at how decisions are made. One of the most memorable moments? A mock vote on a student-led motion to cancel homework. Final tally: 10 in favour, 6 against. Democracy in action\u2014with just the right dash of student rebellion.<\/p>\n

The students also had the chance to step inside the Mayor\u2019s Office, where they met members of his staff and got a sense of the leadership, coordination, and planning that happens at the very top. It was a rare opportunity to see how city-wide priorities take shape\u2014and to hear directly from the people helping to guide them.<\/p>\n

Throughout the building, students stopped to speak with City staff across a variety of departments. From transit planning to public works and parks to communications, staff were eager to share what they do and how their work supports the day-to-day life of Ottawa residents. The students asked thoughtful questions and gained a real sense of how many moving parts are involved in running a city.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t just educational\u2014it was energizing. From curious conversations and photo ops to civic debates and a bit of fun, Gloucester High\u2019s visit brought a fresh perspective and a whole lot of heart to City Hall.\"\"<\/p>\n
