Thank you to Monique, Kara, Wes, Carole and the whole team, for the warm welcome and for sharing their knowledge and experiences during our visit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County provides programs, education, and support services for people living with dementia, caregivers, families, and members of the community who want to learn more about brain health. Many of their programs and activities are offered free of charge, helping ensure that families can access support, education, and meaningful activities without financial barriers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Their activities calendar includes support groups, wellness programs, social activities, and educational opportunities designed to help individuals remain connected and supported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">These programs are vital as dementia affects not only the individual diagnosed but also their caregivers and families. In the Ottawa and Renfrew region, nearly 24,000 people over the age of 65 are living with dementia, and that number is expected to double by 2030.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">During the visit, I learned about several of the programs that help create meaningful engagement for participants. Programs such as Daisy Caf\u00e9 offer a welcoming social space where people living with early to mid-stage dementia can take part in activities such as trivia, music, games, and art while caregivers connect with others who understand their experiences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Other initiatives include art and cultural programs such as the SPARK! program in partnership with the National Gallery of Canada, where participants explore art together in a supportive environment. There are also interactive technology sessions using systems like Obie, a motion-sensor gaming platform that encourages movement, coordination, and cognitive stimulation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">In addition to activities and social programs, the organization provides education and guidance through Dementia Care Coaches who offer personalized support and help families navigate available services and care planning. These supports play an important role in helping families better understand dementia and ensuring individuals living with the condition can continue to engage with their communities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">If you or someone you know is living with dementia, or supporting a loved one through the journey, it is important to know that you are not alone.
