Ottawa\u2019s streets were filled with green, music, and Irish pride this past weekend as the St. Patrick\u2019s Day Parade made its long awaited return after a six year hiatus. It was incredible to see this beloved tradition back in full force, with residents from across the city coming together to celebrate Irish heritage and community spirit.<\/p>\n

Despite earlier concerns about the weather, the rain held off and Ottawa showed up. The streets were lined with families, friends, and visitors who came out to take part in the celebration. Marching bands, community groups, and performers brought colour and energy to the parade route, reminding everyone why this event has meant so much to our city for generations.<\/p>\n

I was truly humbled and honoured to serve as Grand Marshal for this year\u2019s parade. Being part of such a meaningful moment, especially as the parade returned after several years away, was something I will not soon forget. Seeing the excitement, the music, and the unmistakable Irish spirit throughout the crowd made the day incredibly special.<\/p>\n

This celebration would not have been possible without the dedication of the Ottawa Irish Society and its president, Tom O\u2019Neill, along with the many volunteers who worked tirelessly to bring the parade back to life. Reviving an event like this after six years takes tremendous effort, and the success of the day shows just how much this tradition means to our community.<\/p>\n

It was also a pleasure to celebrate alongside Ireland\u2019s Ambassador to Canada, John Concannon, Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, Member of Parliament Mona Fortier, and many of my council colleagues who joined in marking the occasion.<\/p>\n

\"\"The parade showcased fantastic participation from Irish cultural groups and community organizations from across Ottawa and neighbouring municipalities. Their enthusiasm and pride helped make the return of the parade truly memorable.<\/p>\n

I also want to thank the Ottawa Police Service, Ottawa Fire Services, and the Ottawa Paramedic Service for their work in ensuring the celebration was safe and enjoyable for everyone who attended.<\/p>\n

The celebrations continued well beyond the parade route. The Irish Village was full of energy, and many local establishments across the city welcomed crowds eager to keep the Irish spirit alive throughout the day.<\/p>\n

Seeing this tradition return to Ottawa was something special. The turnout, the atmosphere, and the pride on display showed just how much this event means to our city.
