Celebrate Winter Fun at Vannessa Gilles Park and Beyond!

Winter fun comes alive at outdoor rinks like Vannessa Gilles Park, where smooth ice, crisp air, and the dedication of volunteers create the perfect setting for skating, hockey, and community connection.
January 27, 2025 by Andrea Shane

Winter in our community is more than just chilly weather—it’s a season of outdoor adventure, fresh air, and cherished moments with friends and family. At the heart of it all are our beloved outdoor rinks, bringing neighbours together for skating, hockey, and memories that will last a lifetime.

The Magic of Outdoor Rinks

Outdoor rinks are more than just a place to skate—they’re a cornerstone of winter fun. Across the ward and beyond, these rinks are alive with the sounds of laughter, skates gliding on ice, and hockey sticks meeting pucks. They provide a space for kids to master their first skating strides, for teens to gather for impromptu hockey games, and for families to share unforgettable experiences.

Vannessa Gilles Park: A Winter Hotspot

This past weekend, I had the chance to visit Vannessa Gilles Park, and it was truly a sight to see. The ice was smooth and spectacular, creating the perfect setting for winter fun. It was amazing to see so many people out enjoying the day, whether skating, playing hockey, or simply soaking in the atmosphere. A huge thank you to the dedicated volunteers whose hard work made it all possible. Vannessa Gilles Park continues to be the go-to spot for winter recreation!

Behind Many of Our Rinks

Behind many of our rinks are dedicated volunteers who put in countless hours to clear snow, flood the ice, and maintain the facilities. Their efforts ensure that we have safe and enjoyable places to skate, connect, and celebrate winter. We owe them a huge thank-you for making it all possible!

Explore More Rinks!

If Vannessa Gilles Park isn’t nearby, don’t worry—the City of Ottawa has an extensive network of outdoor rinks waiting for you! From small neighbourhood rinks to larger venues, there’s no shortage of spots to lace up your skates and enjoy the fresh air.

To find an outdoor rink near you, visit the Outdoor rinks | City of Ottawa page. It’s a great resource to explore all the options and plan your next skating outing.

Join the Fun!

Whether you’re a seasoned skater or stepping on the ice for the first time, there’s something magical about skating under the open sky on a crisp winter day. Grab your skates, bundle up, and head to a rink near you—you won’t regret it!
