New Accessible Bus Stop Infrastructure Rolling Out Across Ottawa as Part of New Ways to Bus Network

The New Ways to Bus network is adding over 225 accessible new bus stops across Ottawa in phased construction to improve transit service and accessibility citywide.
June 12, 2025 by Andrea Shane

As part of the launch of the New Ways to Bus network, more than 225 new bus stops are being added across the city to improve transit access along new routes and modified service patterns.

All new stops have been designed to comply with the City of Ottawa’s Accessibility Design Standards (COADS). Locations have been selected to provide convenient and connected access while minimizing impacts on local residents and ensuring safe and efficient service.

Construction of the new bus stops is being completed in phases due to the extensive infrastructure required. Phase 1, which includes roughly 70% of the new stops, has been completed. Construction of the infrastructure for Phase 2 and Phase 3 locations is planned for Spring to Summer 2025. Due to the scope of work required to build fully compliant bus stop infrastructure, some changes and upgrades will take additional time to complete. In the meantime, temporary stop infrastructure will be installed to ensure service is available at all new bus stop locations when the New Ways to Bus network launches, even if permanent construction is still underway.

Several existing bus stops previously marked as “not in service” have been reinstated where transit service is resuming. These stops did not require new infrastructure and were included in Phase 1, where the existing “stop not in use” signage was replaced with new bus stop flags.

Additional stop changes requiring infrastructure upgrades are planned for Phase 3. These include accessible loading and landing zone improvements.

These improvements are part of ongoing efforts to enhance transit accessibility and service reliability throughout the city. More updates will be provided as construction progresses.
