Isabelle Weidemann: Experience, Excellence, and What Comes Next

Isabelle Weidemann enters her third Olympic Games as one of Canada’s most accomplished long-track speed skaters, combining proven medal-winning experience with a leadership role as she prepares to compete in the 3000m, 5000m, and team pursuit.
February 5, 2026 by Andrea Shane

Isabelle Weidemann enters this Olympic cycle as one of Canada’s most accomplished long-track speed skaters and a proven performer on the sport’s biggest stage. A three-time Olympian from Gloucester, Ontario, Weidemann has built her career on consistency, endurance, and a steady rise through the international ranks.

After making her Olympic debut at PyeongChang 2018, where she narrowly missed the podium, Weidemann broke through at Beijing 2022 with a standout performance. She earned three medals—bronze in the 3000 metres, silver in the 5000 metres, and gold in the women’s team pursuit—helping Canada open its medal count and closing the Games as Team Canada’s flag bearer.

Beyond the Olympics, Weidemann has been a mainstay on the international podium. She is a multi-time medallist at the ISU World Single Distances Championships, including repeated podium finishes with Canada’s women’s team pursuit. In recent seasons, she has also added individual world championship success, reinforcing her place among the world’s top long-distance skaters.

This time around, Weidemann’s Olympic schedule reflects both her experience and her versatility. She begins with the 3000 metres, followed by the 5000 metres later in the Games, allowing time to recover and sharpen between races. Her competition concludes with the team pursuit, where she serves as the pace-setting leader for Canada’s medal-contending trio.

As she looks ahead, Weidemann is chasing more than results. Entering her third Olympics, she balances personal ambition with a growing leadership role, mentoring younger teammates while anchoring Canada’s long-distance program. With experience on her side and momentum built through the World Cup season, she arrives ready to once again contend—both for the podium and for a lasting place in Canadian Olympic history.
