April 23, 2026 by Andrea Shane

A standout talent with roots in Ottawa, Akheem Mesidor is gaining national attention as he prepares for the next chapter of his football career.

From Ottawa Beginnings to U.S. College Football

Born April 5, 2001, Mesidor grew up in Ottawa, where he first developed his love for football playing with the North Gloucester Giants. His early years in the sport were shaped locally before he continued his development through several schools in Ontario and later in the United States, finishing his high school career in Florida.

Recognized as a promising recruit, he committed to West Virginia University, choosing the Mountaineers over several major NCAA programs.

Making His Mark at the College Level

Mesidor made an immediate impact in his first year at West Virginia, earning conference recognition for his performance on the defensive line. Known for his versatility, he played multiple positions across the line and consistently contributed with tackles and sacks.

After two strong seasons, he entered the NCAA transfer portal and ultimately joined the University of Miami. There, he quickly secured a starting role and continued to elevate his game against top collegiate competition.

A Player Shaped by Ottawa

Despite his success in the U.S., Mesidor often points back to Ottawa as a key part of his development. Programs like Gridiron Academy helped build not just his physical skills, but also the mindset and discipline required to compete at a high level.

Coaches who saw his potential early describe a player driven by passion, resilience, and a deep commitment to improvement.

Looking Ahead

Now emerging as one of the top defensive prospects in college football, Mesidor is widely viewed as a player with significant potential at the professional level. With a combination of skill, determination, and strong foundational support, his journey from Ottawa fields to elite competition continues to gain momentum.
