Construction Season Officially Underway in Ottawa
I joined Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, Councillor Steve Desroches, Carina Duclos, Director of Infrastructure Services, and Thomas Cavanagh Construction Limited at the former Gloucester South Senior Centre on Bank Street for the City’s annual Construction Season Kickoff and the relaunch of Ottawa’s construction safety campaign, “Respect. Patience. Safety for All.”
This year, the City is investing more than $691 million into infrastructure projects across Ottawa. That includes road rehabilitation and reconstruction, bridge repairs, drinking water infrastructure, sewer upgrades, wastewater improvements, sidewalks, pathways and more.
As Chair of the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee, I know how important these investments are to keeping Ottawa moving and ensuring our infrastructure can support a growing city for years to come.
We also received updates on the Bank Street widening and reconstruction project, a major investment that will transform the corridor into a safer and more accessible route for drivers, transit users, cyclists and pedestrians.
The $50 million project includes a new four lane roadway, new sidewalks on both sides of Bank Street, five fully protected intersections and critical infrastructure upgrades throughout the corridor.
Construction season is about building a stronger and safer city, but it also comes with a reminder to slow down, stay alert and respect workers in construction zones. Everyone deserves to get home safely at the end of the day.
