Groundbreaking Ceremony for SMART Local 47 Training Centre Expansion

I attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the SMART Local 47 Training Centre expansion, celebrating a significant milestone for skilled trades education in our community.
October 17, 2024 by Andrea Shane

Today, I had the privilege of attending the inauguration ceremony for the expansion of the SMART Local 47 Training Centre. I was honored to stand alongside key leaders such as Labour Minister David Piccini, Provincial MP Lisa MacLeod, Stuart Simpson, the Director of Training, and other members of the skilled trades community to celebrate this significant milestone for our community and the skilled trades sector in Ontario.

The expansion of this training center reflects the dedication of everyone involved in providing high-quality education and hands-on training opportunities. With over 1,300 members, of whom 40% are predominantly francophone, the center tailors its curriculum to be accessible in both official languages, ensuring that all members have the chance to thrive.

What truly sets SMART Local 47 apart is the involvement of its students in maintaining the facility. From sheet metal workers handling complex projects to members participating in all aspects of the work, this center fosters a strong sense of community belonging and real-world experience. The educators are exceptional and create a supportive environment, and access to state-of-the-art equipment is unmatched.

As a proud representative of Ward 11, I am excited to see the positive impact this expansion will have on our local community and the entire skilled trades sector in Ontario. SMART Local 47 is more than just a training center; it is a beacon of opportunity, growth, and excellence.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in this remarkable project! Together, we are building a stronger future for the skilled trades in Ontario.
