Monthly Fare Capping with Presto

OC Transpo now offers monthly fare capping with Presto, letting riders pay per trip and automatically ride free after reaching the cost of a monthly pass.
August 12, 2025 by Andrea Shane

OC Transpo riders can now take advantage of monthly fare capping using their Presto card. This new feature makes it easier to manage transit costs without committing to a monthly pass upfront. Simply load funds onto your Presto card and tap as usual for each ride. Once you’ve paid the equivalent of a monthly pass in fares, the rest of your trips for that month are free.

This flexibility is great for anyone who isn’t sure how often they’ll travel in a given month. If you only take a few rides, you’ll only pay for those. If you end up taking more, you’ll never pay more than the cost of a monthly pass. It’s a practical way to save without the upfront cost.

Monthly fare capping is available to all riders, including those with Senior, EquiPass, and Community passes, and works the same way when using credit or debit cards through O-Payment for Adult fares. Fare capping also applies to Para Transpo trips, with rural supplement charges excluded from the cap.

If you often transfer between OC Transpo and STO, it’s worth noting that fare capping only applies within one system at a time — for regular transfers to STO, a monthly pass is still recommended.

For more information on how fare capping works, including examples and tips, visit OC Transpo’s fare capping page.
