Something Amazing Is Coming to Ottawa: A First Look Inside Ādisōke

Ādisōke is emerging as a remarkable new destination in Ottawa, offering bright, purpose-built spaces that will bring together learning, creativity, community, and storytelling in an inspiring new way.
November 27, 2025 by Andrea Shane

I recently had the chance to visit Ādisōke, the future joint home of the Ottawa Public Library and Library and Archives Canada, and the experience was truly memorable. Even though the site is still under construction, you can already sense the ambition behind this project and the pride of everyone working on it. Every person we spoke to, from the project team to the crews transforming each level, shared the same excitement. There is a real feeling that something remarkable is being built, something that will shape the way our city gathers, learns, and shares stories.

A Vision Shaped by Light, Space, and Storytelling

As we made our way into the building, the scale of the central atrium immediately stood out. Its soaring height, sweeping lines, and expansive window openings already give it a presence that will make it unforgettable. Even at this stage, you can picture how this space will become the heart of the building, a bright and open hub where visitors naturally pause, explore, and take in their surroundings. The architecture reflects a thoughtful balance of contemporary form and cultural meaning, with shapes and movement inspired by the landscape and by Indigenous storytelling traditions. Although many finishes are still to come, the structure already hints at a place defined by openness, connection, and light.

Purpose-Built Spaces for Creativity and Community

As we continued through the building, we were shown several of the specialized program areas that will make Ādisōke so much more than a traditional library. Even without the final layers in place, each room clearly reflects the intention behind it.

The podcast studio will offer a dedicated space for people to record stories, interviews, and community conversations. The layout has been purposefully designed to support high-quality sound while remaining accessible to beginners, making it a place where anyone can experiment with digital storytelling.

The community kitchen promises to be an active and welcoming space where food literacy, cultural learning, and hands-on workshops come together. It will support programs for all ages and backgrounds, giving people a place to cook, learn, and share experiences, using food as a way to bring the community together.

The family history centre will offer visitors a meaningful way to explore genealogical resources, connect with archival material, and uncover their own family stories. Standing in the room, it was easy to picture how powerful this space will become: a place where personal history and national history meet.

A Building Designed With People at the Centre

One of the most impressive aspects of Ādisōke, even at this stage, is how much it prioritizes the visitor experience. Every pathway, entrance, and future seating area reflects a commitment to making the building easy to navigate, welcoming, and comfortable for the community. You can see how the building’s layout is shaping up to support movement, connection, and exploration, whether you are coming for a quick visit or spending hours discovering new spaces.

The team also spoke passionately about how each area will come together to create a building that feels open and inviting the moment you step inside. Although many features are still evolving, the overall sense of purpose is unmistakable. This is a place for people of all ages, interests, and backgrounds, designed for learning, creativity, and shared experiences.

Ottawa’s Next Landmark

By the end of the tour, it was clear that Ādisōke is going to be a defining destination for Ottawa. Once complete, it will put the city on the map as home to one of the most inspiring and forward-thinking library facilities in the world. It will be a landmark, a gathering place, and a space where storytelling takes on new forms.

The visit left us feeling energized and genuinely excited. Seeing the project take shape and hearing the stories behind its design made it clear that Ādisōke is becoming something extraordinary. The anticipation will only grow as more of the building comes together.

A video preview is available below, offering an early look at the progress and the remarkable spaces that will soon welcome the community. This is only the beginning, and what comes next will be something truly special for Ottawa.
