Happy Independence Day to Nigeria and to Ottawa’s Nigerian community! 🇳🇬

I was honoured to join members of the Nigerian High Commission, the diplomatic community and leaders from Ottawa’s Nigerian community today as we celebrated 66 years of Nigerian independence.

Canada and Nigeria have shared diplomatic relations since 1962, but those ties are also felt right here in Ottawa through business, public service, education, arts, culture and, most importantly, community.

As Ottawa celebrates its 200th anniversary this year, it is a great opportunity to recognize the many communities that have helped shape our city and continue to be part of its future.

Congratulations on 66 years of independence, and thank you to Ottawa’s Nigerian community for everything you bring to our city.

Bonne fête de l’Indépendance au Nigéria et à la communauté nigériane d’Ottawa! 🇳🇬

J’ai eu l’honneur de me joindre aujourd’hui aux membres du Haut Commissariat du Nigéria, à la communauté diplomatique ainsi qu’aux leaders de la communauté nigériane d’Ottawa pour souligner les 66 ans d’indépendance du Nigéria.

Le Canada et le Nigéria entretiennent des relations diplomatiques depuis 1962, et ces liens se font aussi sentir ici même à Ottawa, dans les affaires, la fonction publique, l’éducation, les arts, la culture et, surtout, au sein de notre communauté.

Alors qu’Ottawa célèbre son 200e anniversaire cette année, c’est aussi l’occasion de reconnaître toutes les communautés qui ont contribué à façonner notre ville et qui continuent de participer à son avenir.

Félicitations pour ces 66 années d’indépendance, et merci à la communauté nigériane d’Ottawa pour tout ce qu’elle apporte à notre ville.

What an amazing night bringing together past and present members of the Beacon Hill gang.

Aside from the incredible food from Smokey’s and the awesome riffs from the band, one of the highlights had to be having the King of Beacon Hill and the Mayor of Beacon Hill together — Doug and Willy! 👑😄

Great people, great memories and a whole lot of Beacon Hill pride.

Already looking forward to the next one!

I had the honour of joining the runners and cyclists as they completed the National Peace Officers’ Memorial Run and Ride to Remember on Parliament Hill, in my role as Deputy Mayor of Ottawa and representing the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. It was a meaningful opportunity to stand alongside peace officers, families and communities from across the country in honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

To everyone who took on this journey, thank you for the time, strength and heart you put into carrying their memory forward. And especially to the families of fallen officers, including the members of S.O.L.E., your strength and your presence are a powerful reminder of why we continue to gather, remember and stand together.

Our police and peace officers play an incredibly important role in keeping our communities safe. We cannot thank them enough for their service, their commitment and the sacrifices they and their families make every day.

We remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and we stand with the families, colleagues and communities who carry their memory every day. ...

Quel beau succès aujourd’hui au Coin du livre! 💚🤍

Félicitations à mon amie Nathalie et à toute son équipe pour cette magnifique journée. On sent vraiment l’esprit de famille derrière Le Coin du livre, et c’est une grande partie de ce qui rend cet endroit si spécial. C’est chaleureux, accueillant et profondément ancré dans notre communauté.

Entre les rencontres avec les auteurs et autrices, les échanges autour de la littérature franco-ontarienne et les célébrations du 45e anniversaire des Éditions L’Interligne, la journée a été une belle démonstration de la force et de la vitalité de notre communauté francophone.

Bravo Nathalie pour tout ce que tu continues de faire pour promouvoir le français, soutenir nos auteurs et autrices et créer un endroit où notre langue et notre culture ont toute leur place. Une très belle journée et un succès pleinement mérité!

Congratulations to my friend Nathalie and her entire team on such a wonderful day. There is a real sense of family behind Le Coin du livre, and that is a big part of what makes it such a special place. It is warm, welcoming and deeply connected to our community.

Between the author visits, conversations around Franco-Ontarian literature and the celebrations marking the 45th anniversary of Éditions L’Interligne, today was a wonderful reflection of the strength and vibrancy of our francophone community.

Congratulations, Nathalie, and thank you for everything you continue to do to promote French, support our authors and create a place where our language and culture can truly thrive. A fantastic day and a very well deserved success! ...
