An Evening That Reflected the Best of Ottawa

The Gold Hearts Gala at the Fairmont Château Laurier brought together Ottawa’s community in a powerful show of generosity, raising more than $375,000 in support of efforts to end youth homelessness and reflecting the compassion and spirit that define our city.
January 29, 2026 by Andrea Shane

Spending the evening at the Gold Hearts Gala at the Fairmont Château Laurier was a powerful reminder of just how generous and caring our city truly is. The room was full — not just in numbers, but in spirit — with people who give so much of themselves to this community every day.

Seeing members of our fire, police, and emergency services, alongside longtime friends and former colleagues, made the night especially meaningful. These are people who quietly show up for others, often without recognition, and being together in one space felt deeply moving.

The Gold Hearts Gala, the Mayor’s Charity Ball, is about more than a single evening. It’s about coming together around a shared belief that every young person in Ottawa deserves safety, dignity, and opportunity. That spirit of generosity translated into real impact, with the community raising more than $375,000 in support of organizations working to prevent and end youth homelessness.

What stood out most was the sense of collective purpose — community organizations, partners, and residents united by compassion and a determination to make a difference. Alongside the Ottawa Community Foundation, the Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa, the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa, Operation Come Home, and United Way East Ontario – Centraide de l’Est de l’Ontario, there is a shared hope of ending youth homelessness in Ottawa by 2030.

It was an evening filled with gratitude, reflection, and hope — and a reminder that when Ottawa comes together with open hearts, meaningful change is possible.
