Transit Committee Update

At today’s Transit Committee meeting, I raised several important points regarding ongoing transit issues.

I inquired about the search for used buses, as the new 60-foot diesel buses are not expected to arrive until 2026. Unfortunately, efforts to find used buses have been unsuccessful so far, and there is no backup plan in place. This remains a significant concern, and I will continue to advocate for a viable solution.

I also confirmed that the planned adjustments to bus Route 24 are still set for implementation in April. For more details on these changes, please refer to the public service announcement.

Another topic of concern was the delayed delivery of electric buses. I asked whether the 26 electric buses will be fully operational by the end of March. Currently, it’s estimated that around 10 will be operational by that time. To ensure greater transparency, OC Transpo has committed to publishing monthly updates on the number of electric buses in operation starting in March.

Additionally, I learned that the assembly of electric buses in Ottawa involves sourcing various parts from different places. I asked whether any of these parts come from the U.S. and if potential tariffs could impact costs or delivery. OC Transpo will provide this information to City Council.

Finally, I was glad to hear that funding for additional special constables to enhance security on transit platforms is moving forward. This will lead to more visible security presence, helping ensure riders feel safer while using our transit system.

I will continue to monitor these issues closely and keep you updated as they develop.
